Update Spree, Part 2

Here we go. The best of my Character design work I was working my own character into the space Ramayana universe. He's a Gorilla king that decided to augment himself to demon status. Below are a Painting, a Portrait, an Orthograph, and a page of attacks. enjoy.

Update Spree, Part 1

Sup guys, Finals were a bit rough, and I have been sadly neglecting my internet responsibilities. I kicked their ASS though. more on that later. I haven't updated in ages, so I'm going to make up for lost time. Starting with Character Design. Here you are.

This is my design for a vulture demigod named Jatayu, re-imagined as a spaceship. not the best of my designs, but I like it for the most part.

This is the cave that he dwells in. A platform that is as chaotic as a vulture's nest. Up next is my final.

Character Design. Hindu Robot!

I worked out a bunch of sketches for this one, and I really feel that I've found my niche. This is the stuff I've always wanted to do. I think I've fallen in love with this class. This is just one page of many.

My teacher said I should choose the 1st or the 5th on the page, so the 5th it was. I was digging the design, but not the colors. Neither was my teacher.
So here's the re-color/ improved piece. I absolutely loved the way it came out.
This is an orthograph I did for the design.

More to come soon!

My Doodle For Google Entry

Every Year, Google holds a competition For grades 1-12, to design a logo based on a premis. That year, the premise, "What If" was a framework that said, "do whatever the fuck you want, and bend what if into the final design. Mine turned from Google made with robot parts to "What if robots were modeled after people." Anyway, I was a high-school senior, and I was one of 10 finalists in my age group in the whole country. I went to the Google Campus in Silicon Valley. Didn't win though. tough break. had a good time though.

That's me, the tall one, the one that sticks out. God I look like a 30 year old that snuck into the photo.

AND so ends my back-log, from now on, the posts will be newer, up to date work of whatever it is I'm doing. I'll keep you posted.

Drawing From the Tablet

This is a class about a new medium with a classical spin. Our teachers where very keen to keep this class very traditional. From life, realistic portraits and drawings but, using the Photoshop medium.
Here are some of my better ones.

that's the last of the Backlog posts, now it will be up to date entries.

General Illustrations

These are general pieces from my Illustration portfolio that I feel are well done or noteworthy. Most of these pieces where done for one of John Malloy's classes

This was one of my earliest Digital Paintings. It's a sort of CyberPunk take on the Rime of the Ancient Mariner. Freshman Year.

Another Piece from Freshman year. The Robots thing started early. You thought I was kidding?

This is a much more recent piece. The assignment was to make someone into a doll. There you go. Once again digital.

This is a book cover for a book I have not read, but would love to at some point in the future. I think Dawkins is brilliant. Inked with croquil, colored digitally.

This is a fake poster for a band that I love. Inked and painted separately, then composited on photoshop.

This was a CD cover that I submitted to a musical artist I really like. It didn't work out, but it left me with an awesome piece.

Thats all for now. Check back soon!

Narrative Illustration 2009

so I figured I'd have a post or two of backlogs, each with a brief description. That way I can post what I've already done, and then get on with whats happening now.

So Lets start with a little class called Narrative Illustration.

This is a piece I did for an article about the war of sorts between Anonymous (The internet) vs. Scientology. Color Pencil. This one is rather small. A sketchbook piece.

This was a small 20 minute or so Political Illustration about Healthcare.

As you will come to realize, I love drawing robots. One could say it's a bit of an obsession. They are a constant reoccurring theme in my work, and I'm sure will be what get me jobs in the future. This was a Piece for an editorial in Pop Sci about the possible future of robotics. I've always been drawn to the idea of synthetic life. This one was Photoshop. Couldn't tell you how long it took.

This was my 4 week final project. It consisted of a solid, no-break, 18 hours of work, and a significant shortening of my lifespan. It's not as strong as it could be. I was still learning how to do flats, and it suffered from inexperience. I still think it's a fairly strong piece, and it was too time intensive not to at least mention. This one was Photoshop as well. It was sort of my first foray into textured brushed, and it got a little out of hand.

Well, there you have it. The highlights from my Narrative Illustration Portfolio. More posts coming. (Probably today)

It's my Blog phase!

Well well well, first blog post. The fresh smell of Html, the feel of brand new data against your eyeballs... yeah, I know. Creating a blog has the exact sense of Building nothing, giving it some colors and fonts, and then re-arranging your nothing so that it's flashier and cooler than everyone else's nothing. But nonetheless, I need exposure, so I'm buckling and making this blog, just like all the other Mica kids. It will be used for...

-Posting my art
-telling the world (or all 5 or so of you) what projects I'm working on
-Possibly a webcomic?
-things I have done in the past
-general awesomeness.

stay tuned. Next post comes in.... now.
